Garden Party at Berrycroft Manor raises £1,135.64 for Alzheimer’s Society
Residents, relatives, staff and neighbours spent the afternoon of 15 August in the grounds of Berrycroft Manor care home in Romiley for the home’s annual Garden Party, which raised £567.82 for Alzheimer’s Society. This was then matched by Berrycroft Care, bringing the total raised to £1,135.64.
The gardens were opened up for the day with a marquee, stalls run by the activities team and a tombola stocked with prizes donated by businesses in Romiley and the surrounding area. There was live music, afternoon tea served throughout, and a raffle drawn late in the day. Residents helped plan the event over several weeks beforehand, choosing the entertainment and baking for the cake stall.
Alzheimer’s Society was chosen by residents and staff together. Dementia touches a great many of the families who come to Berrycroft Manor, whether or not their relative is living with a diagnosis, and the charity’s local support work is familiar to people in Stockport. Money raised on the day goes towards its support line, its network of local advisers and its research programme.
Richard Odell, Managing Director of Berrycroft Care, said: “The Garden Party is the biggest day in our calendar and the residents start looking forward to it from about April onwards. They chose Alzheimer’s Society themselves and they were involved in almost every part of the planning, so raising £567.82 in a single afternoon is a real credit to them. Opening the gardens brings the local community into the home and reminds people that a care home is part of the place it sits in. My thanks go to the staff who put the day together and to the local businesses who donated so generously to the tombola.”
The home would like to thank everyone who gave prizes, baked, volunteered or simply came along on the day.
